Caelum
Name: Caelum, sometimes goes by 'Nightlight'
Age: immortal (appears late thirties)
Race: Technoctem CS
Story: [Technoctem]
Backstory:
A bit of a loner with an atypical fondness for the daylight hours, Caelum (more typically going by Cae) is a shy, quiet technoctem who's happiest when in his own company. He owns a small, inexpensive apartment on the edge of the city but doesn't spend much time there; instead, he likes to spend as much of his time as possible as a sort of urban explorer roaming the rundown and abandoned outskirts and the wilds beyond. Cae can interact with people just fine for his job, but doesn't have many friends. He feels awkward and mildly uncomfortable when in the presence of too many people and enjoys the quiet of being on his own more than anything.
Though most technoctems are nocturnal by nature, Cae has always felt a bit of affinity for the daytime and tends to do most of his exploring under the sun; I guess he's a bit of an insomniac by TN standards. Over time the exposure to so much sunlight seems to have physically affected him, as he's grown up with his natural markings taking on a bit of a golden sheen when viewed in the light (though that's his personal theory and doesn't have any scientific basis on a species-wide level). He likes to sun himself on the rooftops way out in the ruins, happy with the warmth of the sun on his wings and nothing but the sounds of nature and birdsong around him.
In order to support himself, Cae makes his living as a compcube courier providing secure personal transportation for sensitive cargo; though his work occasionally takes him offworld, he has a small fear of spaceflight and prefers to take assignments for on-world transport if he possibly can. Most of Cae's work is above-board, but he'll sometimes take slightly shady assignments if the pay is high enough. He's got a reputation as discreet, reliable, and makes good time as a distance flier when on the sort of assignments where ship-based transport isn't private enough. Though he's not rich by any stretch of the imagination, Cae tends to make enough per assignment that he can spend frequent stretches of time on his own personal explorations without having to worry too much about a day-to-day job; he'll usually take four or five assignments a month and spend the rest of his time on his own. He lives fairly frugally to maintain this lifestyle.
Cae's one nod to excess is his halo implant, something he's wanted to own since childhood. Though the implants are fairly expensive, Cae actually came by his in a roundabout way by discovering a damaged one in the wreckage of a transport ship and having it installed in a back-alley procedure. The downside of this is that his halo isn't well-attuned to his natural bioenergy. It tends to be fairly dim in comparison to a standard halo, and often flickers or has visible digitization lines running through it. Cae typically wears it only for his own enjoyment, and will often have it turned off when around other people.
Additional Notes:
- can be drawn with or without halo, which is a hologram and can have 'monitor lines' in it
- markings on wings and body glow in low-light conditions
- wings have 'blades' present among primary feathers
