Lethe
Name: Lethe, the Moon Eater
Age: immortal (appears late thirties)
Race: Dropzilla CS
Story: [Dropzillas]
Personality:
At his core, Lethe is just fundamentally not a good person. He's cold, disciplined, and controlling, with an insatiable thirst for knowledge and power. He has next to no regard for others and cares not at all for the consequences of his actions, putting his own satisfaction before all else. While he can be charming and seductive and can sometimes come across that way in casual conversation, it's very much a practiced front that he learned over the centuries before finding more reliable, low-effort sources of the love that Dropzillas need to sustain themselves; he's not to be trusted, and there are very few people that he shows even an iota of affection for. When in doubt, it's best to assume that he sees everyone as a means to an end.
He takes what he wants with very little regard for the feelings, property, or lives of others; when he turns his formidable power against someone, he's known for attacking in the dark where the strikes made with the dark, inky substance that's a fundamental part of a Dropzilla is near-impossible to detect or avoid. Interestingly enough, it's only when drawing heavily on his magic that the scarlet markings on his body reveal themselves to be actual glowing eyes, the source of which is unknown but troubling.
Backstory:
Living his life as an evil man, Lethe died full of regret for his misdeeds. The Queen sensed his regret, and granted him new life... only for him to succumb to his dark nature once more. n the distant past of his former life, he was a warlord mage who wanted power more than all else and did whatever he thought necessary to get it; following his reincarnation as a Dropzilla, he's fallen right back into that same wickedness and has spent his time since then learning to wield his new abilities more effectively than ever. Known as the Moon Eater, he's made his mark on history as a sort of boogeyman who's as much myth as flesh and blood.
In the present day, Lethe is a highly placed member of the sordid underground trade known as the Black Market, where captive Dropzillas are purchased for a variety of dark purposes. Known to few who actually frequent the place, he nonetheless takes a fairly hands-on approach in the care and keeping of the merchandise; not out of any sense of empathy, but because he can take sustenance from the desperate affection of a caged creature to the hand that feeds it. It's also entirely possible that he uses the Black Market itself for his own dark ends, with some captives disappearing to fuel magical pacts, but none of the few who even know of his involvement are about to question him on it.
He also is the founder and leader of a sort of fraternity of mages known as the Pale Masks, which Lethe himself had hand-selected for membership. Members are granted access to his considerable collection of magical knowledge, in exchange for bringing in knowledge of their own. Though it may seem uncharacteristically generous of him, don't be fooled; Lethe also uses the organization as a way to parse through his largely ill-gotten collection, and also as a way of identifying (and eliminating) potential rivals.
Additional Notes:
- can be drawn with or without wings
- horns and tail are formed of a black, inky substance and can be drawn either solid or semi-liquid so long as they keep their essential shape
